Art and STEM are closely connected

I went to a newly built all-girls middle school in Jeju Island, South Korea. The school implemented several 21st century study tactics, one of which was STEM-V. You have probably seen the abbreviation "STEM" a lot by now, and it stands for "Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math." A lot of students pursue the STEM field because of the rising demand for STEM majors. However, not a lot of schools focus on STEM-V or STEAM education. STEM-V and STEAM are slightly different from STEM as they incorporate Visual Studies or Art as the core of 21st century education as well.
Although art and STEM might seem very distant, art is necessary for STEM majors to have "substance." Art challenges students to think about the impact of their work onto the public, and this quality is important for STEM majors to go a long way. Penn also focuses on this quality as they require STEM majors to take an Engineering Ethics course to be qualified for graduation. Not only that, there are disciplines within engineering that connects art to STEM such as Mechanical Engineering, UI/UX design, and more.
