Isabelle de Borchgrave - Fashioning Art from Paper
Isabelle de Borchgrave is a Belgian artist who is most well known for her painted paper sculptures. One of her most successful exhibitions was "Papier à la Mode" in 1998 - this consisted of 30 life size outfits made of painted paper. The outfits were mainly elaborate dresses which were inspired by rich depictions in early European paintings. I was intrigued by how much these sculptures looked like they were made out of fabric due to the shapes created and the draping. I think this is a good example for project 3 as all of these clothes and accessories were made by manipulating paper and using different painted patterns.
