Imperial City Design

Chinese imperial cities are a great model for looking at the significance in planning and layout. The Forbidden city being a great example of this. The placement of buildings and courtyards all held cultural significance. Even the site chosen to build the city on had to be taken into account when building the cities. The significance of placement and direction could be something to keep in mind when creating an abstract visual representation of a described city.
