How we can design timeless cities for our collective future

This Ted Talk was about ways we could potentially build cities in the future that can help bring people together as well as help to combat problems facing humanity, like climate change. Vishaan Chakrabarti talks about how the old, charming cities of the world were built to be beautiful and are still so successful at drawing people to them. He then compares older cities with cities built in the 20th century and emphasizes how cities and suburban areas across the world today are becoming more and more similar as they are finding ways to cope with growing urbanization and sprawl. Chakrabarti argues that there are ways to incorporate the cultures of different areas to create unique cities that can foster a sense of community that is lost in todays cities.
I found this Ted Talk interesting in relation to the Invisible Cities reading because all of the cities were unique and their designs reflected the unique qualities about the people who lived in them and the terrain around them. Today, we don't see new, unique cities like the ones in Invisible Cities but instead see new cities looking more and more similar to one another and doing less to distinguish themselves and their inhabitants.
