This isn't directly related to our current unit but it is about cities and art. German artist Jan Vornmann is filling in gaps in buildings with Lego bricks. This adds a pop of color to the cities he works in. Legos have long been known as a creative tool for children and adults and Vornmann uses them to make people smile.
I think that using Legos in an urban environment could be considered an abstraction of the environment. Rather than using beige or gray Legos to fill in the cracks in buildings, Vormann chooses to use a range of colors that really stand out from their surrounds. In a way, he is reimagining small corners of a city by reconstructing them with Legos.
